tbh I'd be willing to host any minecraft server as long as it's on 1.7 or before if enough people want me to

update: I noticed that you can row a boat fast by just keeping A and D pressed

regardless, turning is still counterintuitive, pressing A turns right instead of left and vice-versa

"Only the player/mob that boarded first can control the boat."

not entirely true-- I had a boat and a squid stole it while I wasn't in, and I could still drive it

The 1.9 updates mostly solve the problems that the players on competitive PvP servers complained about, but that's probably far from the only reason why they implemented it.

I guess what they're doing is making realism/survivalism and creativity more and more separate with each version. Both were closer together than they are now, in fact, I think that's the charm about the old beta versions of Minecraft.

Although adventuring in the recent worlds still is quite a good experience, and the new Elytra gliding thing is kind of awesome.

I do agree that video games are supposed to be an escape from reality; why people want to play games based on reality is beyond me and this is why I like Nintendo.

I agree too, but at the same time, I kinda understand why some people go for realism. In the end, it's easier to relate to and to understand.

In this case however, I think Minecraft should have separated the two into two more gamemodes, like, two other ways to play survival mode.

heh, I guess it was an issue for PvP, with equal equipment the winner would be the one who clicks the fastest

(reminds me of those idiots on dirbaio's server, when one of them tried backstabbing me with a lame pickaxe, I sliced the shit out of him with my diamond sword)

however, different ways to play call for different mechanics: you're happy to get more balanced mechanics when fighting other players... but not so much when you're facing a creeper

so yeah I'd agree with you on the "two separate survival modes" part

hunger however doesn't bring much (beyond making farming more legit maybe?) and makes it much trickier to start a new game

the new boat controls might be more realistic, but they're inconsistent with other mechanics (namely how A and D are swapped compared to walking), but then again, one could say that different modes of transportation call for different mechanics

and since you can press A+D to go forward, boat rowing is less tedious than I thought

(meaningwhile, minecarts still don't rotate you when they take turns, that kinda sucks imo)
