This is an idea I had. Not a concrete project or anything (yet?).

Goals would be:

* Speed. Although it should do pretty well, considering any crapo smartphone outpowers the 3DS.

* Being easier on the battery (because more efficient code, heh).

* A control scheme that doesn't suck. Still wouldn't be as good as physical buttons, but eh.

* No ads or "since this is Android we need to demand money for our emulator" bullshit.

If those goals are met, blargSNES could be a serious competitor on that market. But inevitably all the Apple fanboys would want an iOS version that will never happen.

What other platforms could blargSNES be ported to?

* Raspberry Pi. Like most smartphones, it's an ARM device, so things would be mostly easy (blargSNES has quite a bunch of ARM ASM code).

* PC. No real interest, would mostly be yet another SNES emulator. Any modern PC is powerful enough to run bsnes/higan, so uh.

* WiiU. No real interest either. You can just port Snes9x and call it good, even if you do a terrible job at it, it'll run at fullspeed.

It would be fun to have an SNES emulator in the browser for Wii U, honestly. You'd see me in the internet browser for years.

I think there are already in-browser SNES emulators, not sure tho.

Well i would be on board. Especially since battery life on a Xperia PLAY is slim... but... mines flex cable is broken... I got a very strong Nvidia shield tab & console.

Aren't there already SNES emulators for Android?

There's retroarch, but the controls on it are horrendous.

Might be some straight-up SNES9x ports too.

I think SNES9x or ZSNES would be ported to platforms like iPhone, Android etc.

ZSNES can't be ported easily though, it's got a lot of x86 ASM

Hmmm, wouldn't it pe difficult to have an userbase?

Will it be free? If that is, then you might find that it woud be great, because IIRC, all snes emus out there are paid, or if they might be free ones, they are limited in functionality.

If you want to go for paid, the you face serious competition from Super GSNES, which is, IMO, the best SNES emu for android as it has bluetooth multiplayer and other neat features.

of course, it would be free and ad-less

just because it's Android doesn't mean it has to be full of commercial shit

Yes, I know.

In any case, it sounds like a great idea to have a good free snes emu.

main goal would be having usable controls, not sure how good it can get though

Hmm.

Seems like touch controls is the only option. Almost all emulators from NES, GBC, GBA and SNES have the same button layout.

Most let you change the size and place of them in the screen, so one can get them on how they feel it better.

Still, playing some games on touch controls is difficult, like platformers. I managed to beat YI, but with the abuse of save states, as I couldnt do some sections due to how difficult is to move around and press many buttons (and that is if the hardware supports multi touch)

Things like RPGs play fine though.

thing is, on a real controller, you can press two buttons by moving your thumb across them (which I do a lot in Mario games)

if you find a way to detect that behavior on a touchscreen, you are off to a good start

That's exactly the problem with Mobile Apps nowadays: 95% of all Mobile App Developers want to see money, even if their Apps are pure shit.

In the last few months, I was unable to find any App, that:
1. Is free of charge.
2. Doesn't have any in-app payments.
3. Doesn't have any Ads.
4. Doesn't have a Donate Button.

And I'm talking about a Lumia Phone with Windows 10, a Nexus Phone with Android 6.0, and an iPad with iOS 9.2.
Okay, I don't have an iPad, but I know enough people around me who have one.

...What exactly are you expecting mobile app developers to do? Just make an app for free and gain nothing for the time they spent making it? I mean c'mon, is a donate button really that huge of a problem?

Then how about all those Homebrew Developers, making Apps for Consoles and PC?
And how about a lot of Web Developers?
Why they don't ask anyone to fund their lost hours then?

Asking for money for hombrew is illegal, iirc.

I don't know about you, but most websites and content creators I see either have ads or donations.

I'm talking about Web Developers, not Web Masters or Bloggers.
And Blimps' whole point was "you should be funded for the time you wasted", as far as I can read.
