SMG has been a fun ride, but we need to move on. I'm going to close the SMG forums.

Reasons for this are:
a) the scene is basically nonexistant or almost due to the sheer complexity of that game
b) the board's admins don't care about SMG anymore, which would be ironic for a SMG hacking board
c) as I said, we're moving on. To new, more fun things. We'll be unveiling them soon.

The SMG forums will be closed and archived. The ObjectDB will be closed to prevent vandalism, but still available for Whitehole to download.

In the event someone wants to try starting a good SMG hacking scene, and not just for the sake of power or fame, I'd gladly give them whatever they need for that. But Kuribo64 will not support SMG anymore.

That is a bit sad, where can people post new object data or other discoveries? Maybe just the hack sub-forums should be closed, but not the documentation/tutorial ones?

Or just make another board, or something. Kuribo64 won't support it at all anymore.

Sad to see SMG go. :(

If anyone besides me still cares about Galaxy and wants me to make another board I'll do it.

I'm not that interested in SMG hacking. Eh, it simply died so there's really no one who cares about SMG hacking.

Shouldn't the forum(s) be put in the Archive section and be converted into one forum?

We're getting there. They're staying multiple forums though.

I apologize if I sound a bit ignorant, but does this mean Kuribo will be focusing on SM64DS hacks now?

SM64DS hacks will stay, but we'll be focusing on other, newer things.

Splitwirez, you might want to call a plumber. Something is leaking from your post.

If someone did want to hack SMG they could do it in Misc. ROM Hacking right?

Arisotura

That's a possibility, if they really cling to it.

(unless someone else makes a SMG board, I guess...?)

What's the point of closing it? Is there a specific reason why it needs to be closed? Like, it's not like there's any major downsides to leaving it open. It's not because there is not that much interest in hacking the game, there's no interest at all. Super Mario Galaxy is what originally brought us here. Taking it away seems a bit weird.

Sometimes I still feel like I don't exist...

...(AKA apparently there's atleast one user left who is still interested, not that it makes a difference or anything)

EDIT: Can SMG hacks still be posted in the Misc. ROM Hacking section?

That was answered two posts above yours.

This. Any reason?
Will the objdb's source code be given out, at least?

Don't forget, the original Kuribo64 was about SM64DS.

We brought SMG here because we together hoped to build a strong SMG hacking scene with SMG2.5. It'd have been a big hit, but... SMG2.5 never went anywhere. SMG games also lost a lot of popularity over time. With that and the complexity, noone is going to want to hack them.

And well, we're looking for material that keeps our board alive. As it is now, it's turning into a postcount++ derpboard. We can let it become irrelevant, or we can make it relevant again.

If someone is willing to start a new SMG hacking scene, I'll gladly give out the ObjectDB source and even a dump of its contents they can directly insert. I still have the Blargboard version, which is probably what they'll be interested in.

One of the reasons for archiving it is that we don't need to spend time maintaining it anymore. Truthfully, I haven't checked the SMG forums in ages. I don't want trouble to happen in there and go unnoticed by the staff.

It'll also help reducing clutter. We have what, 5 SMG forums? With what we're planning to add, we'd end up with a huge forum structure. (not to mention the 'derpboard that tries to be about everything' side)

Well, I expected the "we're maintaining something that's not interesting to us anymore". The thing is, if it's so inactive, I don't expect any kind of trouble there soon.

The old Kuribo64 was indeed about SM64DS, but Super Mario Galaxy made it what it is today. It's undeniable that the somewhat chaotic hacking scene made this board big.

I don't really expect any kind of support, just the right for it to be there. Shoved to the total bottom of the forum overview or something, whatever you feel like. Simplify the structure of the board to whatever satisfies you. The thing is, when you leave it there you still give people who are interested the chance to explore and maybe ask questions to the few who are left. If you close it all down, there simply is no such chance.

I would suggest a (stickied) Super Mario Galaxy Megathread in Misc. ROM Hacking.

I have kinda left so I don't really care. I had a project named SMG1.1 (which later changed its name to Super Mario Galaxy World 1 Edition), which was about to edit all galaxies in World 1 so SMG1 would get some activity. That project started 11 months ago and didn't get anywhere. We made a bad logo, got retextured bosses, some new cool backgrounds, an almost finished model and got a 95% finished level. We had it secret until now. I'm sorry PaperplateismGuy and the others. Hacking projects aren't easy, especially when it's 3D games. Well this is the end for this project.

Shouldn't we have the SMG forums open just in case? We can atleast wait until JwopDK release his new Captain Grabbin' version.
