Hello, everyone! As you can (probably) see, I'm new, and I'm not even close to be familiar with this forum. The FAQ told
me to "proceed to introduce yourself in the General forum". I hope I'm not doing anything wrong. xD

My name is Bentroen, and I have an YouTube channel currently about Minecraft. But I wanted to bring other games to my
channel, like Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, because I have a Wii and they are my favorite games.

To record them, I got an EasyCap capture card, and after having a lot of hard work to make it record, I discovered that
its quality makes my eyes twinkle... by the tears on them. Besides the fact that the tools and drivers used by it are very
old and incredibly glitchy, the quality of it is terrible. You can't even read text very nicely (not at the point where
you can't read "Welcome to the Galaxy!" or "TOO BAD", but almost like that). So, since I downloaded Dolphin to see how it
worked in my computer (and very badly, actually), I gave it one more shot. Downloaded a newer version, and tried to run
the game again. Terrible.

I gave up of that and a lot of time passed, until a nice day when I was bored and decided to try everything again. I tried
it, terrible. Watched a lot of performance tutorials that decreased the quality, and didn't help at all. And then I found
the latest revision, which, according to a lot of people, made the game playable, which was impossible before that version
for most computers. Downloaded it, and it was nice! I even got it flawlessly with antialiasing and a higher resolution
activated. That's what I wanted.

But I thought: "well, before I make videos on that, I may want to find a way of translating this game", because my channel
is in Portuguese and translating everything while it appeared on the screen would be terribly boring. I searched for that,
and I found it. But the translation was unaccurate, and had a lot of errors and missing characters.

"Let's see how can I translate it by myself", I thought. "If these guys got a way of doing it, I can try too!" I realized
I would need to hack the game, something that seemed very far from me at first. My first difficulty was unzipping the ISO.
And then, duh, I could use Dolphin for that. Next one: ARC files. Dozens of applications downloaded, until I got RARCDUMP,
which was the only one I could use in the haste and excitement I had for it. "LocalizeData... Ok, cool! That's what I
need." Next: MSBT. "MSBTEditor... NuntiusNovus..." My eyes twinkled when I opened it, and saw all the strings there. But I
forgot I would need to recompress all of that again (during all the process, I told me I would give up dozens of times,
but I didn't). "WiiScrubber? Ok, let me see if that works." And it worked. I saw the strings I translated there, and I was
pretty happy with that.

And then I said: "I'm a Super Mario Galaxy hacker now!" At least for the language files... it's already a start, isn't it?
After that, I remembered of Super Mario Galaxy 2.5, which I found on YouTube a lot of time ago. That reminds me that,
after watching all the channel's videos and getting very excited for it to be released, I noticed the most recent one was
released in 2012. And I thought: "What?! I can't believe it's one more huge and nice project abandoned by the creators! I
hate that!" And while searching for the tools, I saw the 2.5 logo on some of them, and I noticed the last release of the
tool was recent. "So, if this is recent, this means it's still being used by the hack creators!" I searched for it once
again, and then I came here. "Welcome! Welcome, neeeeeew membeeeeeer!"

I had the idea of coming here because I realized that, if I discovered all of that with help only from the internet and in
two or three days, I had some potential for working on it. And, in the video "Welcome, new galaxy!" I watched, I noticed
that people is needing sound designers, level designers, texturers, etc. And I'm pretty sure that I can fit in at least
one of these categories.

Sorry for boring all of you with that. I just wanted everyone to know about me, so you could know who I am and what's my
experience on hacking games. My experience is close to 0%. I made all of these translations two weeks ago and didn't
discover anything else (except opening some level files in Whitehole), but I decided I want to hack games. Anyone can help me? :) If that's something harder, I want at least to help with Galaxy 2.5 doing anything else, because I fell in love with the
project and I see it has a lot of potential. Usually I like to help people with their projects, not because I want to put my name on them, but because I see I actually HELPED people being part of them, and this makes me very happy.

Tell me what you think about that. Thank you!
Bentroen

Thank you! I'm sorry for all of that. I'll be shorter next times... :P
Do you have any recommendations for me to get started with the forums? :D

That's probably the biggest Introduction I've ever seen, lol.
If you know (how to loan) CSS (Code), you can customise your Post Layout here.

And also, thank you all. :D

Note that being a copycat is frowned upon. Especially after the RVLution fiasco.

I could also go more in detail about SMG2.5's history and why it died, if you want.

Oh... so... it died...?
I don't know what to say... :P
Ok, please tell me about that.

EDIT: Just came back into the video and this time, I read the description. The first time, I was so excited about it that I didn't notice it was cancelled. Even so, I still want to know why that happened.

Too ambitious, and most people in this forum have real lives to live and don't have much spare time to donate to the project.

The Team is working on another, smaller hack now, and SMG hacking is going pretty well now. There are all kinds of levels and projects out there in the Custom SMG Levels board for you to play!
Status: It was really, really fun, guys - thanks for the ride!

Oh, wow... I'm very disappointed on seeing that a NICE project like that was abandoned. I know it's hard to dedicate a lot of time to a project when you doesn't have a lot, but if they did it veeery slowly, they would come to something! (If you follow this logic, every game in the world should stop being created, because all of the creators have "real lives to live" and can't work on the game. :P)

Ok, I'm better reading that. The thing is that I don't only want to play, but help in the project also. Do you know if they are still needing helpers?

Well, I only did that, because I suck at CSS (and JavaScript being worse).
If I would actually steal your Layout, I would done this much fancier, and you would have been much angrier.

Sure, go ahead.

Of course, we would love your help!

And the reason we couldn't do it because of "real life" is because unlike professional developers, who get paid, we are all students who are working in what little free time we have.

Yeah, I know that. Actually this was the first impression I had when I saw the project. If it was being made by professional, paid people, a HUGE structure would be created involving that, and that was not the case. It looked like it was something "homemade", and I love this type of project, because I know people make it with love.

Oh, "we"? Really? *reads the profile* Oooohh, everything make sense now! You're part of the team.
So you would love help, huh? I swear combining someone who loves getting help with someone who loves TO help, usually create incredible things.
Yep, I want to help! How can I get started? I would love getting help with that. Har, har!

You actually get paid for SMG Hacking, and Professional Developers don't?

Helping is pretty important for me but I think I need help in order to start helping. :D

Sure, try helping something small, and then you can build up, into helping bigger stuff.
Remember: Practise is the key, the more you practise helping, the better you get at helping.
