First

Original Acmlmboard style.

Second

The style currently in use here.

While I feel that the second separates shit better, the first is a bit more compact.

Yeah, second one.

Definitely the first one. It is the iconic Acmlmboard style and I personally think it's a better style to use.

Second. Please get rid of the private messages bar at the top though, it just takes up space. Put a little envelope next to the username like Kafuka.

PM bar is temporary. It will go when I get as far as implementing PM threads.

It will likely be a plain 'Private messages' link though. I'm not a fan of the Kafuka approach. Why use an icon for that when the rest is only plaintext links?

It takes up less space.

There's more than enough space to fit all the links we need up there.

Unless you use a lilliputian resolution.

I actually vote for the first one.
I mean, it makes the Forums feel more united, and you can see more stuff at once, without the need to Scroll down.

You should probably vote to the poll, though.

Second. It looks easier to see.

If it's a plain private messages link, how will it alert new private messages?

SquidEmpress

It has a "New" marker just like forums and threads.

I mean if it is in the navbar.

Try going to Jul and sending yourself a PM and see the effect.

It will probably be something similar. Like we had at some point in the early days (the ABXD PM banner sucks).

Interesting, although that needs some cleverness to split the forums evenly without completely fucking ordering. (or code this appearance order in the database)

The new board has a max width of 1417 pixels or so anyway, so dunno if that is needed.

The way I did this here was to just drop all the tables with forums/categories in a div and give it columns: 2;, so all the ordering and stuff was decided by the browser.
