Forum software is decided. We're going with Acmlmboard. I like the codebase, and I have another board that runs off Acmlmboard, so this will allow me to run both boards off the same codebase. Will make updates and maintenance easier overall.


The homepage will not be part of the board anymore. IMO it makes more sense for the board "index" to be the forum list page. The homepage is what you see when you fall across the site, describing the site (and its dead latest news feed). But when you're using the board, you don't care about that, what you want is the forums.

The new homepage will be the same functionality wise, but with better presentation and more interesting things linked. We can make it a central hub of the Kuribo64 network-- Kuribo64 is more than just this board


What else do I want to talk about? Ah yeah, more practical shit. I want to remove the doublepost restriction. Instead, there will be a minimum interval of 30 seconds between posts (and also PMs). More fluid posting I hope.


I want to get rid of subforums, too. They have less visibility, and in turn, are less moderated (atleast by me). Forums will be reorganized a bit to get rid of subforums.


The permission system will be simplified a lot. The current one is a big mess. I went overboard with the amout of possible permissions, noone needs such a fine-grained level of control.


This isn't a downgrade. Most of the board's features will be present as well in the new board. Reporting posts to staff, the IRC notifications, the silly little hacks, the anti-bandwagon filters, etc...

Post layout sidebars will go. There might be exceptions for people who are known to be able to come up with a good design, but don't count on it.

The new homepage will also imply changes in what's linked from the board and how it's linked. Not sure the sidebar layout would apply well to it. We'll see.

The sidebar is staying, but it will have the same style for everyone (ie, layouts can't style it anymore).

As I said previously, sidebar and topbar are part of the board UI. Keeping them consistent is somewhat better. And the customizable sidebars pretty much encourage the cheapass-looking 'background on the whole table et voila' layouts.
