Plot twist: It turns out to be an attempt at breaking the 'Most Users Online' record.

Doomclock ended.

Some people were shitposting and not taking notice despite our more or less subtle hints. You guess how this went for them.

(of course, they always have the possibility to come back if they prove their worth, but they'll have to be convincing)

Well, too bad for them.

Why did you put a doomclock instead of simply banning them though?

It was one of the suggested ideas. The staff liked it, so uh.

Got it.

Although you should put it in minutes instead of seconds for more understanding.

/ban for criticizing

Anyway, what can you do that most people can't?

I can play Smash good, being 11 years old, I feel great :)

Doomclock for 2 banned users? :P

Seems a bit overkill, and embarrassing for GT1137 and Splitwirez, but then again, they were shitposting.

It wasn't made public that the doomclock was aimed at them, though. It could have been anyone.

So today, networks practical works. Okay, all good.

Typical plan envisioned: sit at the computer, lazily switching between working and browsing websites, all cool

The room looks like a total geek cave. Computers crammed together on the tables, with groups of 3 computers sharing 2 monitors. In whatever space is left, funky network-related apparatus, probably routers/switches, and phones above them for whatever reason. (phones with corded handset and all, not cellphones)

"You have admin rights on these machines, you can do whatever. They aren't connected to the university network (they're basically in their own network). Which means, no internet."

... who works without internet in fucking 2015??

"Try to do the work without using your phones either." Not that you can do much anyway, the room has terrible coverage.

First part of the thing: answering questions by looking up man pages and such. Okay, not terribly bad. With my teammate we get it done quickly.

Second part: getting used to Python for next courses. Write a program that reads lines from a file and only prints them out if they contain a given word (basically, a slightly inferior grep in Python).

And have fun guessing how to do all that with "pydoc foo" and no internet.

I did it, though. My teammate too.

What you had to do stuff by guessing, no documentation on python? That's pretty shit.

We had documentation. Just, not in the most practical form.

1. What is a "doomclock," and 2. This is the reason why two users were banned with the title doomed?

users were banned for low post quality and not getting the hint (previous warnings, bans, whatever)

So bad news. I finished up my first term at college, my college has 4 terms instead of 2 semesters. In between terms I have a week off. So I brought home my laptop which was working fine 3 weeks ago last time I touched it.

So I get home, open up my laptop and get greeted to this:
[thumbnail]

My laptop is already a terrible 1366x768 screen and having more than half of it compromised is going to lead to a long week. The only other computer I have at my Dad's house is 8 years old.

someone obviously touched it while you weren't touching it

This happened to my gamepad after I SLAMMED my controller on the screen.

If someone touched it, look for people that act nervous around you. If you want to fix it, then I don't know what to do..
