presumably the cars would have a locked-down firmware reviewed by an international authority (or atleast national)

My question would be that since crooks and thieves will just do about anything how would that make it a case against driverless cars in of themselves? I think smart locks are pretty stupid, but I guess you'll never have to worry about forgetting keys, I guess?

I'd rather have government than no government, I'd rather have federal government handle things like what I mentioned above than pretty much anything else. I have faith in government, but I'll always criticize when I can.

Depends on the way the cars handle their priorities, it's just like anything else:
If the car prioritises user input over automated input, then you can prevent remote controls, but that means you have to manually steer the car all the time. If the car prioritises automated input, then you can steer whatever you want, but it'll still deny your commands. |
