someday you will get smart locks

meaning that burglars can just hack it and enter your house with no trace, and good luck proving it to the police

What if a self driving car were speeding? Who would get the ticket? There could also be dirty police, who would hijack the car, make it go faster, then give you a speeding ticket.

presumably the cars would have a locked-down firmware reviewed by an international authority (or atleast national)

if they were to spread, that is

doesn't change the fact that they could be hacked by their owners, of course

But the manual locks can be lock-picked...

My question would be that since crooks and thieves will just do about anything how would that make it a case against driverless cars in of themselves?

Wouldn't the owner still get the ticket for not paying attention to the car? Maybe? You're acting like you have no sort of control over the car, especially with your "have it take you right to [hijackers]."

burglars don't bother picking locks, it takes too long, they need to be able to enter your house quickly (2-3 minutes tops)

but who knows how quick it could be to hack a smart lock

I think smart locks are pretty stupid, but I guess you'll never have to worry about forgetting keys, I guess?

I'm wondering, does Google even have Smart Locks?

You do realise, we live in an age we can't trust any government at all, right?

eh, good question

also, what do you use to open the smart lock? see, you can forget it too

(unless it's some part of your body, but those locks aren't smart locks)

yep; hopefully there will be change in that regard

I believe the politics bullshit is obsolete and we should just have a government that gets things done

I don't know about you, but I do appreciate my Social Security, public schools, financial aid, accommodations, and healthcare...

I'd like it too, but everything's so friggin' complicated. It makes my head spin. I don't want Republicans make anything they like to happen happen, but Republicans don't want anything I'd like to happen happen either.

You use your phone, I guess. That's what a lot of services are being tied to, even vending machines.

I distrust the government these days, I would rather live on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean, but I can't, because if I touch a fish of any kind, I will die instantly.

you can lose your phone or have it stolen, so it doesn't really change anything

(other than increasing the number of things where you're royally fucked if you lose your phone)

French government is more like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i4t5BNV1KE

I'd rather have government than no government, I'd rather have federal government handle things like what I mentioned above than pretty much anything else. I have faith in government, but I'll always criticize when I can.

I know, I know, but I'd imagine that's what you'd use. Definitely not on-board with "use your phone as a credit card, use your phone as a lock, use your phone to control your house (yes, smart houses exist), use your phone to help you vote", and so on, although I have to admit, it's awfully convenient.

Social Security

No idea what that is, but if you mean stuff like FBI, CIA, NSA, etc., it's your choice whether you trust those or not.
NSA: Your privacy at danger.
CIA: Grand founders of ISIS/ISIL/IS.
Now we will only need to know what the FBI really does.

sounds like the kind of conspiracy theory Squidgirl would come up with

> NSA: Your privacy at danger.

probably, although they don't care about you unless you're a potential terrorist

SquidEmpress believes ISIS/ISIL/IS came out of nowhere, actually, just like the vast majority of this Planet.
But unlike them, I don't check Mainstream Media, as those are filled with Propaganda, False Flags, and other bullshit.

On the subject of smart cars, can't manual countermeasures prevent automated remote bullcrap from happening? Or will the black hats make it so you can't switch to manual when your car is going haywire?

Yami
Posted on 03-15-16 11:10 PM Link | #68689
Depends on the way the cars handle their priorities, it's just like anything else:

If the car prioritises user input over automated input, then you can prevent remote controls, but that means you have to manually steer the car all the time.

If the car prioritises automated input, then you can steer whatever you want, but it'll still deny your commands.
