1. Extract an ARC file for a background like GalaxySky
2. Open the BDL in bmdview2 3. Click File > Export model 4. Delete all the TGA files you get, and leave the 3DS 5. Go to SketchUp and click File > Import 6. Import the 3DS 7. Now you'll see a sphere 8. Get your own texture that is a PNG format, has the both width and height 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 or 1024. I usually have 128 x128. 9. Texture ONLY INSIDE THE SPHERE. NOT THE PART OUTSIDE. ONLY TEXTURE THE FACES INSIDE THE SPHERE. 10. Export it as .obj with the right settings and convert it to a BDL and repack it to an ARC like you do with normal models, but DO NOT make any collision 11. When you add it to ProductMapObjDataTable, make sure you type one of "ProjectionMapSky", "Air", or "Sky" in ClassName's "Data" section. Other thingsWhy I said to you use SketchUp was because it is much easier to texture the models there than Blender or other modelling programs. But you can use Blender if you want. It doesn't need to be a sphere, it just look more natural and more uniform on all the sides in the game than a cube, but you can use a cube or whatever if you want. If you are a noob and don't know those things to get the model in the game and so, just follow this tutorial. If you look on a background in Whitehole you can see through the background and everything that is inside it. You can do it from all sides of the background. If you go inside the background you can't see outside it. That is because the texture is inside the object. The faces that is not textured can't be seen. That is so backgrounds work. |

You don't extract an arc. You extract the archive contents.
Also, you forgot to tell them to set the ProductMap value to "ProjectionMapSky", "Air", or "Sky". ____________________ a |

Also, when you add it to the ProductMapObjDataTable, set it as ProjectionMapSky.
EDIT: Also you want to flip the faces if you get the BDL showing on the outside, and not the inside. (mainly because ProjectionMapSky auto flips the faces) ____________________ Remember, every user has to start out somewhere,- Every time I look back at my old posts, I cringe. |

Also, this may eventually need some pics for those who could get confused
Edit: Not everyone has to use/uses sketchup. (In fact, you could texture it better in blender or 3ds max) You can just create a sphere. It doesn't even need to be a sphere. It could be a square. Sorry for all the constructive criticism, but it's just to clear up confusion for people who might get stuck. ____________________ Remember, every user has to start out somewhere,- Every time I look back at my old posts, I cringe. |

you do not even need a sphere from mario galaxy itself, you can just create whatever you want. |

Posted by Splitwirez there is this magic option in whitehole, which lets you scale the models you made. do I sound to mean? |

Posted by jjesss064 There is this cursed behavior of skyboxes in Super Mario Galaxy 2, which makes the skybox not render in-game if you scale it to anything other than 1 or 3 on all axes. |

Quite literally, you can make any shape you want. Take Toytime Galaxy for example. That's not just a sphere, its a cube with lots of detail, like windows and matting. ____________________ Remember, every user has to start out somewhere,- Every time I look back at my old posts, I cringe. |
