The time period would probably change via pipe.

Edit: The past could have wooden pipes, the present would have normal pipes, and the future could have cool metallic silverish pipes :P. And no, we don't need object replacement to do that. We can just place a model with wood/silver pipes over the normal pipe model.

Glem3 I was thinking some switches that are more apt then PIPES could be used. Maybe even switchAREAS, we could use textures to notate where you could change between time periods, and you'd stand there and have the model switch. Simple :P
Pipes do not really fit ruins very well (the future)
And it doesn't really fit the art style in the present or past either.

Or we can just look into how the obj_arg7 changes the color, and add a new value there.

I have no clue what you're talking about NWP. No switches, pipes. I don't want any crappy finicky switch stuff messing up a very simple gimmick.

It is simple. A switch would use the SW whatever to kill one model and load in anothoer in it's place. I'm thinking about polygon counts more-so then anything. I'm also thinking about space. Depending on if rooms are in open air or not, we'd need planets far enough away to not be seen if we're going with pipes.
But I digress. I do think your idea of pipes changing over time would be cool though, I just don't know how practical it would be

Stop saying something is simple when it isn't. You're not thinking it through. There are 3 models here and 3 timezones to deal with, not to mention enemies and other objects. You're overcomplicating things for no reason. Pipes are way more practical, no more mention of it on the forum, you can object to me on the IRC.

This is a PERFECT level to use the wormholes in! That would be awesome to see. In fact, we could make a wormhole open when mario enters a pipe, I believe...

Edit: Or the wormhole could already be on top of the pipe.

Well depending on if those wormholes that you were asking rean about on the IRC are models, we could totally resize and rework them to work on a pipe. It's not that hard AFAIK.

Maybe we could have some situations where to prevent a specific incident from happening, you could press a switch to slow/stop everything for a while and then have to "change the future" somehow? Maybe prevent/change a special chain reaction or other things :3

There should be a wooden area similar to Puzzle Plank. You have to hit the blue Ground Pound switch to slow time down because the Grinder Buzz Saws only have a small cut to do to make the area fall. While the Grinder Buzz Saws are slowed down, Mario will now be able to make it past the Grinder Buzz Saws.
