(NOTE: If you don't use HDMI to send the output of the Wii U to the T.V., skip to step 5.) So if you have a Wii U, and you've updated it, you've probably discovered the display Wii mode to gamepad feature. You may have also discovered that if you hold b while starting up the Wii U, you can hold B to go directly to Wii mode. But, when the T.V. is off (also, when the T.V. is on a different input while on, or when there's no T.V. Connected) you can't go straight to the Wii menu while holding b on start up, because an error pops up. And since you also can't open it from the Wii U menu, there's no way to get to Wii mode without your T.V. on, right? Well, here's a tutorial to avoid this issue.
1. Turn Wii U on normally 2. Go to the settings 3. Change the output to non-HDMI 4. Turn Wii U off 5. Hold B on start up, and voila! 6. As long as the output is non-HDMI, you can go directly to Wii mode. But, as long as it's on non-HDMI, you're T.V. will need a composite or component cable to display anything, so switch it back when you're gonna use the T.V. (Note: you don't actually need non-HDMI cables, it works fine without them.) I think the reason this works is that the HDMI cable can detect and send a signal of some sort when it's sending data to the T.V., and the T.V. is receiving the data. The non-HDMI cables cannot, so the Wii U doesn't give a crap whether you even have a non-HDMI cable connected. ____________________ Switch on latest firm happily playing Smash daily PC with an i7-4790K, RX480, 16GB ram Various other consoles that are hardly used due to emulation existing |

Huh, didn't even know this was possible. It'll be helpful when trying to boot up a Wii game with Nintendo Wi-Fi connection right before the servers go offline. ____________________ You can tell I'm testing new avatars. Status: Totally didn't change this, nothing to see here. |
