So I literally joined today but I have been watching the site for a little while, and I was wondering what you guys use for making models? Do you use SketchUp Pro or the free version or something I am not aware of? Tell me below because I really don't want to buy anything that is ridiculously overpriced like SketchUp Pro. :( I want to join this community! :)

Maya and Blender are what I've mostly seen people use. SketchUp seems to be used a bit less, but it works.
Status: It was really, really fun, guys - thanks for the ride!

Use normal sketchup if you are a beginner, if you want something more precise, use blender. They are both free.

Thanks guys! my idea for a galaxy is Starry Ginormous Galaxy. In a level called "Bouncing through the Stars" you will be on a ball. The platforms will be giant stars that will be flat. But the star platforms will be the drums with a texture on them from cloudy court that make you bounce. What do you think? Got any ideas? :)

It does focus on importing but it also has model creation notes at the top.

I always use Blender, though from what I've seen texturing may be a bit easier for newbies to do in SketchUp. Blender probably has ways to texture more efficiently, but only if you really know what you're doing. Sketchup is a lot simpler to use.
