So I was thinking about the SM3DW thread, and about all the music talk, I then though about SMG music and though about my favorite compositions, then I realized I wanted to hear what all you other guys think about the SMG1/2 music!

Post a list or don't post at all. Unless you for whatever reason only like one galaxy theme. Also, it would be nice to have comments on why you like them.

I'll start:

My favorite SMG1 Songs:

First Steps - This is the theme that plays on Grand Star Rescue at the Gateway Galaxy. This theme is a little short but no more than an orchestral masterpiece.
Good Egg - What else is there to say? This is the titular theme of Super Mario Galaxy. Fantastic.
Gusty Garden - Another classic, this song has been remixed so much times in this game and the sequel, and I don't regret any minute of it.
Buoy Base - Not as recognized as Good Egg or Gusty Garden, this theme is grand and amazing, another masterpiece.
Melty Molten - REALLY underrated, this is easily right up there with Good Egg and Gusty Garden in my opinion. Not as titular though.
Purple Coins - Cool remix of Gusty Garden, and not just a remix.
Beach Bowl - The titular Mario beach theme in my opinion, neither SM3DL nor SM3DW's theme top this.
Intermission/Sling Pod - This theme is SO peaceful. I love it.
Bouldergeist/Kingfin - Critical - This is an AMAZING spooky boss theme.
Bowser's Galaxy Reactor - Underrated like Melty Molten, this theme is a bit slow but still amazing.
Final Boss - Epic as hell, sets the right tone.

My favorite SMG2 songs:

Yoshi Star/Grandmaster 1 - This theme doesn't sound orchestrated but it SO catchy.
Spin Dig/Boulder Bowl - Catchy, ALOT.
Wild Glide - Glider - This is the only rendition of the SMG2 theme that I like. The main SMG2 theme just didn't do it for me.
Fleet Glide - Glider - Upbeat and sets the tone
Bowser Jr Levels - Totally fits the mood for naughty Jr. :3
Bowser's Galaxy Generator - I think Galaxy Reactor is better, but this is REALLY good too.
All of the boss themes - There are too much to count but all the boss themes in this game excluding Gobblegut and the first/second Bowser are AMAZING
Speed Run - This theme is just AMAZING. It's so dramatic.
Beta Song 3 - So sad this wasn't in the game, fantastic.

SMG1
Good Egg- Do I really need a reason?
Buoy Base- Grand and very fitting for a water galaxy.
Gusty Garden- Everyone else is putting it here.
Final Boss- EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC
Melty Molten- Fits perfectly, and it's awesome.

SMG2
Puzzle Plank- 0:27 0:27 0:27 0:27 0:27
Wild Glide- Glider- Better than the original SMG2 theme (but the original is good too)
Yoshi Star- Same reason as MK7tester
Boomsday Machine (World 5 BowserJr boss fight)- I don't really know but there's just something about it that makes it awesome.
Speedrun Comet(the one in the bowser levels)- EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC

This list reflects my OPINION of the best SMG1/2 music. OPINION.
OPINIONS cannot be false or wrong because they are OPINIONS.
(You can't prove me wrong on my "false opinion".)

SO MANY GOOD SONGS!

SMG1: Good Egg Galaxy - slightly overrated, but still very good and iconic
Mega-Leg Battle - the only MIDI theme to make the cut. It has a great tune, which overcomes the MIDI.
Space Junk Galaxy - really, really ambient. It changes the pace from the other tracks and I love it.
Battlerock Galaxy - HOW COULD YOU FORGET ABOUT THIS ONE? ITS SO DAMN EPIC AND FEELS LIKE STAR WARS
Battlerock (peaceful) - Ambient, and it is really cool how it merges with the battlerock track seamlessly.
Bowser Battle - Wow. This song literally blew me away, and set the bar for boss battle themes.
Beach Bowl - One of the best Nintendo Beach themes. Tied with 3DW's. Really catchy.
Ghostly Galaxy. Tied with 3DW's Ghost House theme for the best Mario Ghost House. It feels really Halloween
Bouldergeist Battle - Not my favorite boss theme, but it is pretty awesome and works with the battle.
Buoy Base Galaxy - might be my favorite theme in the series. IT IS SO EPIC AND NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION!
Airship battle (Bowser Jr) - a fantastic theme for a meh boss. It is catchy as hell.
Gusty Garden Galaxy - This is regarded as the best theme in the game, and for good reason. Its perfect.
Freezeflame Galaxy (both) - It is tricky to make a theme for both lava and ice, but they got it right here.
Dusty Dune Galaxy - Not my favorite in the game, but this is a solid desert tune, with some nice chords.
Toy Time Galaxy - A great remix of the SMB theme
Deep Dark Galaxy - VERY CREEPY o.0
Melty Molten Galaxy - This track gives the galaxy a unique sense of scope and scale, so epic.
Comet Observatory - I simply want to dance with Rosalina

and take her to the bedroom
after hearing this incredible track.
Bowser's Galaxy Reactor - A fitting final level theme. Not as epic as it could have been, but still great.
Final Boss - REALLY EPIC. Still has some faults, but a great final boss theme, with intensity and emotion.
Purple Coins - a fantastic remix of Gusty Garden, and makes these little buggers fun to collect. (at least on the levels where it is timed, I hate the open-galaxy purple coin missions)

Now for SMG2...

Sky Station - really set the bar high for the music, and is a great main theme.
Yoshi Star - really damn catchy and upbeat. Love it.
Spin-Dig - actually sounds kinda spyro-like, but it really catchy and a fun song.
Dig-a-Leg Battle - not as good as Mega-Leg, but still a solid boss theme.
Fluffy Bluff Galaxy - tries to be Gusty Garden, but fails. But it is still a great SMG theme though, even though it doesn't reach the heights of Gusty Garden.
Bowser Jr. Level - really unique song, and feels more innocent and fun than the road to Bowser. But it is still really catchy.
World 2 Map - captures that SMG vibe perfectly. Just such a great map theme. Mixes ambiance with upbeat.
Puzzle Plank - LETS GET IN THE COUNTRY! This might be one of the catchiest VGMs ever. Awesome.
Hightail Falls - NOSTALGIA ALERT
Cosmic Cove Galaxy - one of the best themes in the game. It is the definition of relaxing. Not even kidding.
Wild Glide Galaxy - a fantastic track to accompany one of the best looking levels in the game with Fluzzard.
Road to Bowser - WOW. JUST WOW. This is what the classic Road to Bowser always should have sounded like, so epic.
Bowser Battle - not as good as the SMG1 version, but a great second attempt and some really nice moments.
Slider - There was some true nostalgia here. Gravity Slides. 'Nuff Said.
Haunty Halls Galaxy - not the best haunted theme, but it is way more creepy and space-like than Ghostly Galaxy.
Freezy Flake Galaxy - another catchy rendition of the main SMG2 theme.
Megahammer Battle - yet another catchy boss theme.
Starshine Beach Galaxy - not as good as Beach Bowl, but this one is almost. It just goes a bit too slow.
Sweet Mystery Galaxy - for a minor galaxy, this one has a cool theme. Really mysterious and has a great SMG vibe.
World 5 Map - Has such a deep space feeling that this map theme is very memorable.
Space Storm Galaxy - one of the best in the game. So underrated. But the intensity and the synth really make this song.
Slipsand Galaxy - wow, this desert theme is fantastic. The orchestra really brings it to life.
Fleet Glide Galaxy - Holy crap, this theme kicks major ass. Intense, drums, bass, orchestra, it has it all.
World 6 - another solid world map theme. Not as good as the other 2 though.
Melty Monster - a fantastic lava theme, but it doesn't go to the depths where Melty Molten went.
Throwback Galaxy - this is nostalgia pumped to the max. Seriously. A perfect big band remix of the N64 classic theme.
Slimy Spring Galaxy - o.0 the music helped sell the unique vibe this galaxy was going for. This is my favorite galaxy in the whole series, and the music really helps sell that home. On its own, the track isn't that good. But in the game, holy crap, this song fits PERFECTLY.
Starship Mario - a great SMG march for the hubworld. Not as good as Comet Observatory, but still a great theme.
Tension - a rarely heard track int he game. But it is really damn intense.
Bowser's Galaxy Generator - a solid final level theme. It is pretty epic and has quite a bit of emotion.
Final Boss - I like this one a lot. Not as good as the SMG1 version, but it still makes the pathetically easy final boss at least moderately entertaining.
Speedrun Comet - one of the best tracks in the game. This track is so intense, and it really wants you to finish the level.

There is my list. Quite massive, actually :3

Beach Bowl

Rainbow Mario
Fire Mario
Wild Glide
Fleet Glide
Main Theme (not Skystation)
Freezy Flake

I like well orchestrated, somewhat catchy, and lots of instruments that work well together. These songs meet at the very least, a few of these criteria. I cant for some reason, exactly explain why I like the songs. I'll have a brainstorm and I'll fill the specific reasons in later

SMG1:

-Comet Observatory v1 (It's so charming with only a few instruments)
-Comet Observatory v2 (Again, charming)
-Good Egg Galaxy (It's quite inspiring)
-Bowser Course (Any updates on SM64 music is welcome from me)
-Bowser Battle (Epic, somehow reminds me of SMB3)
-Boo Waltz (Kinda sad, makes me nostalgic for some reason)
-Gusty Garden (Seriously, how can this not be everyone's favourite?)
-Toy Time Galaxy (BA-DA DA, BA-DUM DUM!)
-Hell Prominence (Starts out glacially slow, but it's worth waiting for the climax)
-The Girl's Sadness (Really resonated with me as the more depressing side of Mario)
-Galaxy Reactor (I have no words to describe this other than 'awesome')
-Credits (Really emotive for a Mario game)
-Family (For a single instrument, it does an exceptional job at setting the mood)

SMG2:
-Sky Station (Did a good job of setting the feel for the rest of the game)
-Starship Mario v1-3 (How peaceful, yet active)
-Yoshi Star (Just sounds fun, period)
-Fluffy Bluff (This track has got to be the Gusty Garden of #2, but this one's so underrated)
-Hightail Falls (Makes me wanna play my SNES)
-Bowser Course (Takes #1's track and makes it sound so much better with live instruments)
-Freezy Flake (It's so cute, I wish Australia got snow)
-Starshine Beach (I want to run around in this level forever just to breathe in the Sunshine-nostalgia)
-Fleet Glide (Finds a way to make Mario intense, but fun)
-Melty Monster (I wish all Mario games had a more mature element to it)
-Time Attack (Made the game feel like there was a genuine threat, and is epic as hell. It belongs in a film soundtrack)
-Throwback (My god, this theme. This theme. I almost died)
-Galaxy Generator (So emotive, why aren't all Mario games like this?)
-The Fated Final Battle (Probably the most passionate Final Boss composition in any Mario game)
-Credits (Like a reprise of the entire soundtrack, left me feeling great)
-The Baby Luma and the Hat (The perfect theme to close a game, it almost had me in tears)
