Captain Grabbin' is a Wii homebrew app that opens a Wii disc in the drive and allows you to extract files and folders from inside of it.
It is designed to be somewhat of a replacement for WiiScrubber, so instead of extracting a whole ISO before picking a few files, Captain Grabbin' allows you to specifically choose which levels or songs or whatever you want to extract from the disc, while also allowing you to extract whole folders at a time, something WiiScrubber can't do. This might already exist, but I couldn't find an alternative. If it doesn't, then I hope this proves useful. I can't be the only one who was annoyed by having to rip the whole disc or illegally download a game I already own just to get some levels or music, and I'm pretty sure other people in these forums might have had similar issues. Anyway, here it is: v0.1b Download - https://mega.co.nz/#!z1JiQSRY!C1Ql2iS5bhzmE_pGgX5-O9wLrI0DojBbvWCh--3VYRs ========Fixes======== - Extracting large files (>50 MB) doesn't crash anymore - Implemented a check for the amount of available space on USB/SD card ====Improvements===== - More efficient extraction method, taking more data at a time ======Additions====== - A better progress display, with things like percentage completed, amount of data extracted, etc. ========Todo========= - Still with the graphics that won't make your eyes bleed. The next version should be v0.2, There are more important things that I've fixed, but I've honestly forgotten half of them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ v0.1a Download - https://mega.co.nz/#!GwRGmYSA!nm0S8uIOVGX5DGQt943HO5hiBfZrRtJ4hD8C4QiJXKM ========Fixes======== - Extracting folders now works properly, instead of creating folders where it shouldn't ======Additions====== - Progress thing keeps track of the amount of files extracted - Prints folder/file size =========Todo======== - Actual graphics (working on it) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ v0.1 Download - https://mega.co.nz/#!S8ZDWZyb!y0YhXavsrILBMWroilnIoatpcTcIIfaqQJ6K9Bje3tw (Warning: it's ugly as butts, but it works. I'll make a GUI if people are interested.) EDIT: Oh yeah, it has SD card and USB support, but USB is slower. I can't help that, it's a hardware limitation. Also, there might be a few bugs. I definitely plan on fixing as many bugs as possible and adding actual graphics. This is still in its early stages! |

It is good that alternative Wii software is being made, but I can think of one that exists already:
Of course, that is not its sole purpose, so this may have some advantages. There are also some that are designed for individual games (but may work on other games):

Does this tool allow you to pick and choose files to extract?
Posted by Hiccup Um...WiiExplorer doesn't actually support wii disks or ISOs. ISOs are planned for the future, but this tool is for disks. SMGExtractor takes forever with most games (oddly, Mario Kart Wii is the only game I've found that is as fast as the SMG games), and Reggie! Dumper basically says "NO! INSERT NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. WII!!" and has a temper tantrum if you try to use it with any game other than NSMBW...or Mario Kart Wii. Seriously, I dunno why, but Mario Kart Wii is better accepted by these game-specific tools than any other incorrect game. Re(Zy)gard(e)less, get your facts straight before you shoot down a clever tool. |

Absolutely. There's the whole directory tree thing, like in WiiExplorer. You can highlight and extract single folders or files at a time. Naturally, extracting folders is recursive, meaning everything that goes underneath that folder is extracted. You can check out the source if you want; it's in C. In hind-sight, due to the way browsing folders works, it might have been wiser to use C++. Oh well, it works! |

Posted by Hiccup Oh, that explains it. Fair mistake, they are similar in name. Wait...WiiXplorer can rip files from disks? I thought that was broken. It is on my Wii. It can't even access disks. |

Does this program also extract the whole iso at once or in parts? Cleanrip doesn't work anymore for no reason, and this program looks promising. |

It extracts files and folders inside of the ISO. |

Posted by JwopDk That was a bit vague. You could be a bit clearer. Perhaps mention that it doesn't rip an ISO at all, rather than implying it? |

I should have asked the question differently.
I (want) would love if this program could extract iso's from the disk. is that possible? |

Posted by jjesss064 The program is designed specifically to make that unnecessary. What do you think? Try asking for a separate app instead. |

Posted by jjesss064 No need to apologize! It's a good idea, just...not for this particular app. Maybe Based King Potato would be willing to make a separate application. |

From what I understand, Cleanrip works perfectly well as a utility to extract ISOs. I could add that feature if I wanted, but pretty much what Splitwirez said, maybe not for this app.
Anyway, I'm working on mainly the graphics at the moment, and so far it looks like this: The name of the game sits next to the Captain Grabbin' bit, and the files and folders go on top of the parchment. Oh, and the Wind Waker texture that goes above the blue background will be animated and move. ===========================================================================================================
Ok, sorry, I'll fix that. You know when you try explain something to someone and you forget to mention half the stuff that's actually important? Yeah, that's me. |

Posted by JwopDk Nice graphics! Animation might be a tad impractical given the hardware limitations, but that's purely theoretical. Posted by JwopDk Heh, I know the feeling. Why am I tempted to make a Portal joke about that? Something to do with PotatOS. And I've never played either of the Portal games. Odd. |
